FirstEnergy Corp. (NYSE: FE) said it is not changing plans to shut down two Pennsylvania coal-fired power plants soon, according to the Associated Press.

The 370 MW Mitchell and the 1,710 MW Hatfield’s Ferry power plants in Pennsylvania are scheduled to close on Oct. 9 due to the costs of complying with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Mercury and Air Toxics Standard.
The PJM Interconnection said in August that FirstEnergy may not be able to shutter both plants due to reliability concerns, but further review showed upgrades to PJM’s transmission system could handle the lost capacity.
